I'm a car upholster from Dublin Ireland. I started 13 years ago when I was 17 I dropped out of school and wanted to work in the car industry after two weeks of looking I got an apprenticeship as a coach trimmer. I was only in the workshop for two days but new this is what i wanted to do for the rest of my life. For the 6 years I worked in that Workshop I was a fitter of car seat covers, boat covers and convertible tops also I was a pattern maker the only thing my employer wouldn't teach me was how to sew because he thought I would leave and start my own workshop. In the end I left because I felt I was never going to be the trimmer I wanted to be working there. The problem was there was no work for trimmers Eventually I got a part Time gig in Autoglaze filling in for the lads that went on holidays. That went on for 3 years then I got a call from them to come in full time that was 4 years ago. There head trimmer is polish man he took me under his wing and thought me how to sew even though its not a trimming workshop we just fit pre made leather covers to new cars. It was good at the start because I was back full time but if I'm ever going to be a master trimmer I need to open up my own workshop. So that's the plan I'm working towards getting my own trimming shop. That's pretty much me I'm happy to be part of thehogring. I hope I can give some input I know I'm going to learn a lot from al the master trimmers on hear. |
